THE PROJECT

Work Plan

AI4Europe is composed by 24 partners with competencies and expertise that will contribute to the project’s execution in the following aspects:

  • Support the transition from the former AI4EU in activities such as roadmap development, content management and experiments subsystems;
  • Ensure the collaboration and engagement with other European projects associated with AIoD;
  • Contribute to the evolution of the platform through expertise in physical resources, usability, development of systems, distributed systems, and new technologies;
  • Provide expertise on governance and engagement with communities and PPPs;
  • Provide expertise on the research community including academia and market verticals on innovation.

The project’s methodology has been designed to focus in the following activities:

Platform organisation, governance & sustainability

Aimed to develop efficient and collaborative governance models with processes to ensure fairness, robustness and a tool managed by the community, and define a sustainability model according to the needs of researchers and European innovation goals.

The system of governance designed for the AI-on-Demand platform unfolds the structure, processes, mechanisms and roles for a platform that operates as an open system, embracing the active involvement and valuable contributions of the AI community, while also taking into account crucial elements such as security, trustworthiness, and ethical principles that align with European values.

It takes into account not only the current state of the art, but also future developments, in particular with respect to a long-term sustainability of the platform. An overview of business processes related to the platform is also defined with the objective of placing these processes within the broader ecosystem and evolutionary contexts that the AI-on-Demand platform is currently and will remain integrated with.

For each process, decision points are identified and associated with relevant governance mechanisms and procedures.

Decentralised architecture for an open AI community

Focused on the architectural design and implementation of open distributed software will ensure that the AI-on-Demand evolves as a distributed ecosystem where AI resources can be made available and easily accessed via open standards through new and existing interfaces.

Integration of tools and services to support the AI research community

Aimed to ensure a seamless integration of easy-to-use tools for AI research collaboration, reproducibility, productivity, and AI responsibility.

AI supportive physical environments

Aimed to ensure that the tools in the AI-on-Demand platform will have flexible methods to configure deployments on heterogeneous hardware – HPC, 5G, Edge, Cloud – and to be linked to EU initiatives supporting physical resources.

Academic research engagement

Aimed at developing engagement mechanisms for education and upskilling with European researchers, including support for young talents.

Research applied to innovation

Aimed at engaging the scientific community on AI innovation, to define challenges and needs and to ensure that the platform provides clear paths to scientists and young researchers to advance the TRLs on their research.
